The Atonement

Posted in Uncategorized by Faith for Revival on December 16th, 2008

The Atonement is the central theme both of Scripture and Christianity.  Sinful man could never reach a perfect and holy God, so in his great love for his greatest creation God provided his own path back to fellowship between man and God.  God sent forth his son, made of a woman, made under the law.

The Atonement measures God's love for man

  • The depth of God's love- He spared not his own Son.
  • The breadth of God's love- He loves all humanity.
  • The length of God's love- His love is from everlasting to everlasting

  • Jesus Christ was, is and always will be God
  • Jesus Christ became fully man through the virgin birth
  • Jesus Christ lived a sinless life
  • Jesus Christ died in our place taking our deserved punishment for our sin
  • Jesus Christ physically rose from the grave after three days

These are the five foundational truths of Christianity.

The Confrontation, Confession and Consequences of Sin.

Posted in Uncategorized by Faith for Revival on November 13th, 2008

This is the continuation of Anatomy of a Disaster.  Like so many of us, David thought he had gotten away with murder and adultry, but 2 Samuel 11 ends with the haunting words "But what David had done displeased the Lord."

God will not let his children continue in sin, he gives us a space to repent on our own, but if we don't a day of reckoning will come.  God's desire is to have fellowship with his children, but his holiness demands that our sin be dealt with.

Finally there is a consequence to all of our actions.  God had forgiven David completely, but the consequences of David's actions would follow him for the rest of his life.

Anatomy of a Disaster

Posted in Uncategorized by Faith for Revival on August 22nd, 2006

Everyone knows about the Titanic.  Big boat hits big ice berg, sinks really fast and lots of people die.  What they don't realize is that a disaster is a series of events that lead down a path of eventual catastrophe.  Sin is the same way, we seldom wake up one day and decide to be a drug addict, murderer or adulterer.  This sermon compares how the sinking of the Titanic relates to the adultry of David with Bathseba and his murder of her husband.
